A Vidi Case Study

Cinnabar

Reflecting perspectives through film

What They Saw
Creating connection and empathy through film and reflection
Cinnabar began as a local film discussion series built on a simple idea: that movies mean more when you experience them together. Founded by David and Andre, two passionate cinephiles and community organizers, Cinnabar created intimate gatherings where people could talk, laugh, and reflect on the kinds of films that linger long after the credits roll.

When Vidi first connected with Cinnabar, we saw not just a brand but a feeling. The familiar warmth of a theater light flickering on your face. The collective hush before a story begins. Cinnabar had the soul of something rare, and we knew a new identity could help it resonate even warmer.

Brand Challenge
A Hidden Gem in Soft Focus
Cinnabar had earned its reputation as a “hidden gem” within the local arts scene—beloved by those who found it, but easily overlooked by those who hadn’t stumbled upon it yet. Its brand presence was minimal, and its visual identity hadn’t fully captured the emotional atmosphere of its events: that blend of warmth, curiosity, and shared discovery.
The opportunity at center stage was to define the Cinnabar experience in a way that could grow with the series and its audience.
The creative process was deeply collaborative. Vidi guided the brand strategy and design direction, while working together to infuse it with character. Together, we created something grounded yet flexible—an identity strong enough to lead, but with enough levity to invite.
Vidi partnered with David and André  to build a new foundation for Cinnabar—a brand that could evolve as organically as their community itself. We approached the project not as designers working from the outside, but as fellow film lovers collaborating on a script.
What We Saw
Bringing Visual Narrative Into Focus
Drawing from our studio’s deep connection to cinema and cultural storytelling, we developed a visual and verbal identity that balanced sophistication with playfulness. The name “Cinnabar,” a natural pigment once used in early film coloring, inspired the palette and mood: warm, tactile, and timeless. The glow that lingers after a film that moves you.

The brand became a living toolkit for creative expression. Every poster, program, and social post could now carry the same recognizable warmth without limiting their ability to play.

The identity system extended seamlessly across social media, programming design, event promotions, and brand collateral—right down to the collectible gifts that Cinnabar uses to make its audience feel part of something as truthful and personal as the stories we reflect on.
Where They Are
Reflecting on the Impact of our Community Partnership
The rebrand gave Cinnabar more than a new look—it gave David and André a renewed sense of creative control and inspiration. As community organizers and curators, they now had a visual language that could grow with them—a system designed to reflect their passion for film and their role as connectors within Orlando’s arts community.

Vidi built an adaptable art direction approach that treated film stills not as competing visuals, but as featured stories within a larger composition. By curating a dynamic framework of color, typography, and layout, the brand could absorb the texture and emotion of any film—whether a cult classic, a foreign drama, or a contemporary indie—without losing its own identity.

For Vidi, Cinnabar holds special meaning. As a studio inspired by film and storytelling, this project let us tap directly into what drives our creative spirit: that rare, human feeling when art connects us—and reminds us we’re not alone in the dark.
